Red – In Memorium

August 12, 1982 – March 5, 2023

Red, Chief of Staff at Community Relief Corps. 10th Auxiliary ”Path-Makers” Division Chief, of so-called Seattle, passed away on March 5, 2023. He was 40.

Red, you have been a steady influence for us over the years, for your forward thinking and steadfast defense of our people. Knowing that all of our people deserve a roof over our heads, with full bellies, and comfort in our grasp. You have a legacy of politics, community defense, and response to stand firmly upon. From the ground up, you provided the peoples’ back bone. You have been a steadying force for people in Lake City, occupied stolen land, and the world.

You have reached and touched so many people and have truly honored the spoken and written word, putting ideas into practice with dedication and fierce resolve for our most oppressed people.

Your ideas have proliferated in an avalanche of organizing and critical thought across our communities for the better. The ripple effect cannot be explained in words.

You taught us to first put food in our bellies, grind into our hearts, and pages into our minds. Lesson by lesson. You had a voracious appetite for reading history, and paying it forward, so that others could benefit from reading the playing field.

The importance of being prepared, ready, forever patient, always practical, and always disciplined.

Indoor, outdoor, no matter. The roots you planted grow for us to live. Live fire. You taught us to shoot straight and defend our people. With music that goes hard. Dry fire. With repetition. Aim steady. Range day. For every front line fighter, there must be a dozen others – cooking, cleaning, healing, caring, and organizing.

That’s what you taught us.

Your courage to stick it out when it gets rough will outlast us all.

Always striving to make a difference block, by block, brick, by brick, patiently building to make our lives better.

You are the best of us.

You will be truly truly missed, and never forgotten.
